IRS Impersonation Scam

By Nehemiah Jefferson, Esq., LL.M.

The IRS impersonation scam telephone calls have not and likely will not stop. I continue to receive calls from taxpayers who are afraid, frantic, nervous, and frightened because they have been threatened by someone they thought was associated with the IRS. The most recent caller stated the IRS impersonator demanded $7,000 in 30 minutes or the taxpayer would be arrested.

The IRS regularly posts information about tax scams on their website.

As always, never give out personal or private information over the phone to a stranger that contacts you.  Certainly, do not send money! If you are uncomfortable, simply hang up and contact the authorities or a tax attorney.
